Helen Alvare is a Professor of Law at the Antonin Scalia Law School, George Mason University, where she teaches Family Law, Law and Religion, and Property Law. She publishes on matters concerning marriage, parenting, non-marital households, and First Amendment Religion clauses. She is currently an advisor to the U.S.  Conference of Catholic Bishops in Washington D.C., founder of WomenSpeakforThemselves.com, and an ABC news consultant.

She was recently named to the Dicastery for Laity, the Family and Life.  The Dicastery for the Laity, Family and Life is a dicastery of the Roman Curia. It has responsibility “for the promotion of the life and apostolate of the lay faithful, for the pastoral care of the family and its mission according to God’s plan and for the protection and support of human life.”  Her most recent book is Putting Children’s Interests First in the U.S. Family Law and Policy: With Power Comes Responsibility (Cambridge University Press 2017).
